Our position on current topics
Emissions trading:
- Sectors and sub-sectors affected indirectly by rising electricity prices need to be granted a reprieve
- Companies that use highly-efficient CHP plant to produce electricity and heat for their own production processes should be excepted from emissions trading. At the very least, there should be a 100% free allocation of emissions certificates.
- A practical approach – without involving undue bureaucracy – should be taken to identify industry sectors or sub-sectors harbouring a danger of "carbon leakage".
Ecodesign Directive:
- No expansion of the scope of application to include all products.
IPPC Directive
(Directive concerning integrated pollution prevention and control):
- The figures presented in the BAT fact sheets should not be used directly as threshold limit values. They do not reflect operational practice. Expert participation from the affected industry is needed in order to specify the actual best-available technologies (BAT).
- New soil conservation regulations are unnecessary. Adequate groundwater protection is safeguarded by other European regulatory legislation.
